Many power lines remain down blocking roadways throughout Tift County causing dangerous driving conditions. While many of the trees blocking the roads have been cleared, repairing power lines and replacing broken power poles will take much longer.
Sheriff Gene Scarbrough is asking the public to stay off the roads as much as possible as power companies and public work crews work around the clock to restore power and the roads safe.
If you see downed lines stay at least 35 feet away and don't touch a downed line. That includes phone or cable lines, utility poles, vehicles, metal fences or ladders. Be aware of downed lines that may be covered up by debris or downed trees. Stay clear of damp ground and standing puddles.
