Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Possible Thursday Afternoon Into Friday

Weather.png

Bottom Line:

A cold front moving into the Southeast later this week will bring the potential for a few rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms across the region. There is a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) of severe weather with damaging winds, hail, and a few tornadoes possible Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

Overview:

A strong cold front will push into the Southeast Thursday afternoon/evening. A few rounds of showers and thunderstorms are possible ahead of the front as it moves through. The first wave could impact southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia as early as Thursday afternoon, with subsequent rounds possible Thursday night into Friday morning. Damaging winds and hail are the primary threats, however, a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out at this time. As a result, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) of severe weather Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

Locally heavy rain is also possible Thursday afternoon into Friday morning, which could lead to localized flash flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) of excessive rainfall both Thursday and Friday.
