The Traffic Division is designed to enforce the traffic laws on all highways and local roads in Tift County. These deputies are pro-active and trained to look well beyond the traffic stop, in an attempt to interdict and suppress crime. This unit consists of seven highly trained deputies with years of law enforcement experience. This includes certifications in Radar, Lidar, Intoxilizer, S.F.S.T. and Advanced Traffic Law. Each deputy is also a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician.

The Southern Regional Traffic Enforcement Network includes law enforcement agencies in twelve counties, which include Atkinson, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes and Tift. "It is our goal and the goal of our network to ensure that every person who travels upon our roadways makes it to their destination safely. We want our residents to feel safe and not have to worry about dangerous drivers who would do them harm while behind the wheel. Our traffic division has been recognized on the local, state and national level for its efforts in highway safety.

In 2010 the Tift County Sheriff Office Traffic Division won the state of Georgia's top traffic safety award the Governor's Cup. Our traffic division has joined the Governor's Office of Highway Safety's pledge of less than 1000 fatalities on Georgia's Highways. The number of fatalities has dropped in Georgia for the past several years.

The Tift County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division, also in conjunction with the Tift County Health Department was awarded a Child Passenger Safety grant through the Department of Public Health and the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety. This grant allows us to assist families that may be in need of a car seat for their child.  Once a month at the Tift County Health Department we teach parents how to properly install the car seat and how to properly buckle their child in the seat. For more information on our car seat program, please contact the Health Department at (229)386-8373.
